The Manarai Mountains consisted of a pair of mountain summits. These peaks stood in a rare, undeveloped area on Coruscant, untouched by the planet's ubiquitous skyscrapers and urban sprawl. Situated in proximity to both Orowood and the renowned Imperial Palace, they were positioned to the east of the Western Sea. Numerous orbiting dining establishments provided their customers with exceptional perspectives of these natural landmarks.
Key features of the Manarai Mountains included: Umate, the highest peak; the Manarai restaurant; Monument Plaza; and the base of operations for the Flames of Umate cult. Lusankya was secretly located underground, beneath the Manarai. Not long after founding his Jedi academy, Luke Skywalker constructed a secluded sanctuary in the mountains.
During the Yuuzhan Vong attack on Coruscant, both the Manarai Mountains and Luke's personal refuge were obliterated.
It is possible that indigenous flora existed on the mountains.
Timothy Zahn conceived of the Manarai Mountains for his novel, Heir to the Empire. He explained that, despite knowing Coruscant was essentially a planet-spanning metropolis, he imagined the presence of a few remaining wild areas. He reasoned that such spaces would be attractive to wealthy and influential individuals seeking to establish private, rural getaways.
