Maraki

This particular Hoth hog, Maraki, was significantly bigger than typical members of its species. A thick, black mane extended from its head down its back. Its tusks were arranged differently on its snout, and it possessed two prominent horns on its head, along with smaller horns along the sides of its neck. These alterations were the result of genetic experiments conducted by the Nightsister Kyrisa. Kyrisa, after being banished from Dathomir by Clan Mother Gethzerion, had crash-landed on Hoth. She had become proficient in Animal friendship, enabling her to control numerous animals over considerable distances for extended durations.

In approximately 2 ABY, the Rebel Alliance found Hoth and set up a small station to assess the possibility of constructing a larger base. One of their operatives, caught in a blizzard, sought refuge in a cave with geothermal activity. He proceeded down a tunnel and found a large, dim chamber inhabited by Maraki and several smaller Hoth hogs. Upon noticing him, the creatures attacked, but after a fierce and prolonged fight, he eliminated them all. Sensing their demise, Kyrisa, accompanied by two Wampas, hurried to the cave and confronted the Rebel, who was about to depart. Disregarding his explanation that he acted in self-defense, she accused him of killing her "children." She then commanded her collection of creatures to attack, but the well-equipped Rebel managed to kill the majority of them.
