Maria De Aragon

Maria Monique D'Aragon, alternatively credited as Maria De Aragon, (born on December 26, 1942; died on April 30, 2024) was a Canadian actress who performed as Greedo in several up-close reshoots for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

In the course of A New Hope's production, the device designed to animate Greedo's mouth malfunctioned right before he was scheduled to be filmed. Subsequently, De Aragon was requested to use a clothespin held between her teeth to manipulate Greedo's mouth, effectively bringing the character to life. According to De Aragon, George Lucas essentially saved her life when he noticed her making unusual gestures, indicating that she was unable to breathe while wearing the mask.
