The Marleyvane system existed within the Tharin sector, situated in the Slice region of the Outer Rim Territories. This system was positioned along the Triellus Trade Route hyperlane, offering connectivity to both the Dennogra and Junkfort systems. Prior to the Battle of Endor, specifically in 4 ABY, the Marleyvane system housed a Class IB Galactic Empire military shipyard. The shipyard's production was confined to cruisers.
The reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare, published in 2012 and written by Jason Fry together with Paul R. Urquhart, marked the initial appearance of the Marleyvane system. Fry later remarked that the name "Marleyvane," which reminded him of the works of Charles Dickens, seemed fitting for an Imperial assignment in a "lawless" area within the Outer Rim Territories. Furthermore, the author mentioned that the Imperial shipyard located in the system was designed to act as a deterrent against Mon Calamari Space, a neighboring region populated by independent, anti-Imperial shipbuilders. The StarWars.com Online Companion for The Essential Atlas reference book from 2009 subsequently pinpointed the Marleyvane system within grid square T-8.
