Matabre was a celestial body that existed within the Matabre system, which was situated in the Eucer sector's area. Although considered part of the Mid Rim, it lay within a territory referred to as the Divide during the Tionese War. This war involved the Galactic Republic battling against the Honorable Union of Desevro & Tion. By that time, Republic colonists had already established settlements on Matabre.
Not long before the termination of the war, around 23,900 BBY, a Tionese military unit destroyed Republic settlements on Okator VIII, a planet located in the Divide. A farm boy from the area, who witnessed the attack and later became a Republic soldier, recorded an audio-visual account of the event in a Baragwin sense lattice. In this recording, he speculated that the Tionese forces could have easily targeted any other inhabited world in the region, Matabre included.
Initially, Matabre was intended to be referenced in The Essential Guide to Warfare, a reference book from 2012 authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. However, the specific section that would have mentioned the astronomical object was removed before the book was published.
The details about Matabre were subsequently revealed in 2014 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut. This was a series of articles posted on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Erich Schoeneweiss, and it presented various pieces of content that had been cut from The Essential Guide to Warfare. The Online Companion to The Essential Atlas, a reference book from 2009, which was found on StarWars.com, placed the Matabre system, and consequently the celestial body itself, within grid square Q-7.
