Matrik

A Twi'lek of the male gender, named Matrik, once operated as a member of the Exchange organization on the planet Taris during the era of the Jedi Civil War.

Biography

Matrik began his career as a minor employee within the Exchange syndicate. The acts of violence and murder that he witnessed and participated in while working for the Exchange opened his eyes to the immorality of his actions, leading him to provide testimony to Taris authorities. This testimony led to the imprisonment of several Exchange members and the shutdown of some of their operations. Davik Kang was forced to spend a significant sum, thousands of credits, to recover from this setback, and in retaliation for Matrik's betrayal, he placed a bounty on Matrik's head. Matrik was placed in witness protection, but this protection ended when the Sith forces under the command of Darth Malak conquered the planet, forcing him to seek refuge in an abandoned apartment. Rather than continue his life on the run from Davik's bounty hunters, he resolved to make a stand in the apartment. While in hiding, he conceived a plan to simulate his own demise, but he realized that he would require assistance to execute it successfully. His plan involved creating the impression that he had died in a large explosion, as this was the only way to ensure that his bounty would be paid without arousing Davik's suspicions due to the absence of a body.

Help from Revan

However, Revan, a former Sith Lord suffering from amnesia, happened upon his apartment. Initially, Matrik regarded Revan with suspicion, but he eventually confided in him, sharing his predicament and explaining his plan. Revan provided him with a permacrete detonator, which Matrik used to simulate his death by detonating it within his apartment. He then expressed his gratitude to Revan and departed to find another hiding place until the situation calmed down. The plan was successful, as no evidence remained to suggest that Matrik had survived. Revan was able to deceive Zax and claim the bounty on Matrik. Zax congratulated Revan on his "success" but also commented that he had gone overboard by using a bomb.

Personality and traits

Initially, Matrik displayed a high level of mistrust towards Revan, but he eventually chose to confide in him, possibly driven by desperation or a glimmer of hope. He also possessed some experience in demolitions from his time in the Exchange, sufficient to enable him to effectively use a permacrete detonator to completely destroy his apartment. Furthermore, he felt a deep sense of gratitude towards Revan for aiding in the execution of his plan and helping him evade capture by the Exchange.

Behind the scenes

If the player declines to give Matrik the explosive components required to help him fake his death, citing cost or another reason, Matrik will initiate an attack on the player. This scenario does not award either Light or Dark Side points, as killing him in this situation is considered self-defense.

If the player makes negative comments about Matrik's attitude or threatens to rob him, he will also attack the player, and in this case, neither Light nor Dark side points are awarded.

Alternatively, the player has the option to simply kill Matrik and collect the bounty from Zax. This action results in the awarding of dark side points in the Xbox version of the game, but, oddly, not in the PC version.

In the Strategy Guide Matrik's species is incorrectly listed as Human. However, the Xbox version correctly identifies him as a Twi'lek.
