MD-CH1 Droid
The MD-CH1 Droid represents a type of compact, two-legged droid that saw action during the Third Galactic War. This conflict pitted the forces of the Galactic Republic against those of the Sith Empire. This particular droid model is most closely associated with the Sith Empire, especially the Sith Lord Darth Malgus.
MD-CH1 Droids were constructed with silver and black plating. A red-colored photoreceptor was a prominent feature of the droid's head.
Behind the scenes
The announcement of the MD-CH1 Droid's inclusion in Star Wars: The Old Republic came on February 4, 2022. It was slated to appear in the 2022 expansion pack, Legacy of the Sith, for BioWare's 2011 massively multiplayer online role-playing game. The droid was offered as a minipet within the "Legacy of the Sith: Digital Collector’s Edition" bundle, which was themed around Darth Malgus.
Concept artist Bradley W. Lewis designed the MD-CH1 Droid. He revealed on his ArtStation account that the droid's design drew inspiration from macrobinoculars, employing similar, yet distinct, camera components compared to the original prop from A New Hope. Lewis also incorporated elements from other vintage camera equipment, such as a vintage Graflex side grip and vintage lamp components for the legs. Lewis mentioned that the droid was originally called "murderchicken one," which ultimately led to its official in-universe designation of MD-CH1.
