The Meditative Canyon, an expansive and deep chasm, was situated on the parched planet of Ambria. This canyon acted as a significant nexus for Force energies. For those aware of its location, it offered a tranquil setting, perfect for Force meditation.
The Meditative Canyon of Ambria was located within the Tiernvael Mountains, in the north-central part of the planet, positioned just above the equator. This arid mountain region experienced even less rainfall than other areas on Ambria, due to the significant interference from the planet's ring system. Intense dust storms frequently swept through the canyon, although periods of complete calm did occur. Predicting the weather in the vicinity of these mountains was nearly impossible because of the influence from Ambria's rings.
A river ran through the base of the canyon, stretching its entire length, with natural rock and crystal formations jutting upwards. Several waterfalls emptied into the river, with the largest plunging four hundred meters. The canyon also featured multiple levels, the layers of which were easily visible. Deeper into the canyon, the colors of these various layers shifted in hue and form, with some areas displaying cliffs or steep edges. Caves also became more common with increasing depth. Crystal stalagmites could be found inside these caves, although they lacked the ability to influence the Force. The canyon's lowest levels remained unexplored. The Meditative Canyon, with its high concentration of Force energy, provided an ideal environment for Jedi to connect with the Force.
Despite the canyon's strong Force presence, most of Ambria's wildlife lived elsewhere. When miners colonized the planet, they avoided the canyon, choosing to excavate in other regions. The creatures that did inhabit the canyon had adapted to its harsh conditions. Neeks, small reptiles native to Ambria's barren lands, could be found in groups within the canyon's depths. Furthermore, staga beasts often roamed the areas surrounding the Meditative Canyon. These large, green creatures were herded and cared for near the canyon by Thon, a Tchuukthai Jedi Master who resided on Ambria.
Master Thon established a Jedi training praxeum near the canyon on Ambria, where he instructed young individuals in the ways of the Force. He and his first Padawan, the Vultan Oss Wilum, raised a herd of Staga beasts that Thon had brought to Ambria.
In 990 BBY, Darth Bane, a Dark Lord of the Sith, settled on Ambria, near Lake Natth and in proximity to the canyon. He established a small camp for himself and his apprentice, Zannah. The accommodations, while basic, were adequate for training Zannah, functioning as Bane's base of operations, and serving as a residence for both of them.
