Melissa Scott, a writer with a PhD in comparative history from Brandeis University, has an impressive body of work. Having received the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 1986, she has gone on to publish more than 30 novels. These novels include officially licensed works for franchises like Star Trek and Stargate. Her initial contribution to the Star Wars universe was the short story "Mercy Mission," which appeared in The Rise of the Empire on October 6, 2015.
