Mendicat was a space station dedicated to the mining and recycling of scrap. It orbited a star within a system located in Wild Space. This station existed beyond the boundaries of space under the control of the New Republic as of 12 ABY. In that year, a Sulamar was serving as a member of the station's crew. Due to an error he made in programming the orbital computers of Mendicat, the station deviated from its established course and, consequently, plunged into the star it was orbiting.
Sulamar narrowly escaped the destruction of the station, later transforming himself into a highly decorated Imperial general. He frequently boasted about leading Imperial stormtroopers to victory in what he called the "Massacre of Mendicat." In the year 12 ABY, Crix Madine, a New Republic military officer, revealed the actual story of what happened to Mendicat to Durga Besadii Tai, a Hutt crime lord with whom Sulamar was working at that time.
The novel Darksaber, penned by Kevin J. Anderson in 1995, was the first to mention Mendicat. The Essential Atlas, a reference book from 2009, situated the star system that contained Mendicat in grid square I-8.
