Metagos's sun

A celestial body, a star, located in the Outer Rim, functioned as the central sun for the planet called Metagos. Approximately every few millennia (years), this star experienced periods of solar instability. One notable event, occurring around 72 BBY, involved a significant solar storm referred to as the Great Storm. This event inundated the system with intense radiation, which vitrified the surface of Metagos, transforming it into glass. This cataclysm resulted in the killed of billions of inhabitants on Metagos, forcing the remaining population to seek refuge in subterranean environments. The solar flare persisted for a duration of thirty years, and even after five decades, the surface radiation levels remained dangerously high, with surface storms occurring during the day.
