Mika Streev

In the year 2 ABY, the most skilled warrior on the planet Rabaan was a man named Mika Streev. When a dispute ignited between his people and those on the neighboring S'krrr, he was chosen to face Sh'shak, a S'krrr warrior, in a duel on the Combat Moon to settle things. Neither planet realized that Governor Klime of the Galactic Empire had secretly provoked the conflict, hoping to use it as justification for increasing Imperial presence in the strategically important system. During the ceremonial battle, Imperial Stormtroopers under Modigal Glave intervened. However, with the assistance of his friend Leda Kyss and her Rebel allies, Sh'shak and Streev managed to reveal the governor's scheme to everyone in the system. To honor Kyss's sacrifice, Streev subsequently joined the Rebellion.

Biography

Streev training against a holographic S'krrr controlled by Leda Kyss

Born on Rabaan, a planet where ritualistic warriors were highly revered, Mika Streev entered a society that saw warriors as both poets and celebrities. Through dedicated training and intense focus, Streev rose to prominence, becoming their leading warrior by defeating Andos Delvaren. As a member of the warrior caste, his days were dedicated to physical training and combat preparation.

The Combat

In the year 2 ABY, an accident involving a shuttle led to the destruction of an orbital platform orbiting Rabaan. The Rabaanites placed the blame on their neighbors, the S'krrr from the planet S'krrr. As was customary, the disagreement was to be resolved by a duel between two warriors, one from each planet, on Rabaan's Combat Moon; the victor of this fight would decide the outcome of the dispute. This ritual combat had been established as a way to prevent war between the two neighboring planets and had been used for over 6,000 years to resolve their issues. Leda Kyss, his childhood friend, assisted him with training before his departure for the Combat Moon. However, during their training, she seemed more distant, and he noticed she had been distracted ever since her trip to Circarpous IV.

Betrayal

As the warrior chosen to settle the conflict, Streev was treated like a celebrity, with large crowds gathering to watch Kyss pilot him off-planet in an ancient starship. On their way to the moon, Kyss attempted to explain the evils of the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance fighting against it, but Streev was too sheltered to fully grasp her message. Upon arriving on the moon, Streev began his hunt for his target, the S'krrr Sh'shak. His initial encounter on the moon was with Andos Delvaren, accompanied by Jan and another individual dressed as a Rabaanite warrior. Delvaren explained that the S'krrr were violating the ritual combat rules and that Rabaan had sent them as backup to assist Streev. Jan and the other man were unloading cargo from another ancient Rabaanite pocket cruiser. Despite it being disassembled, Streev's extensive combat knowledge allowed him to identify it as a mint-condition Balmorran Arms M-5 repeating blaster cannon, a weapon typically found only in the hands of the Galactic Empire. Streev recognized Jan and the other man as disguised Stormtroopers, but it was too late, and the stormtroopers overwhelmed him. Streev managed to break Jan's leg, but he was knocked unconscious from behind by Delvaren.

Upon regaining consciousness, Mika kept his eyes mostly closed to avoid alerting his captors. He overheard them discussing the need to kill him with an energy pike, the traditional weapon of the S'krrr. Delvaren explained to the stormtroopers that their plan was to kill Streev and make it appear as though the S'krrr were responsible. They would then shoot the S'krrr to make it seem like the Rabaanites had broken the rules, thereby triggering an intersystem war. Delvaren took the energy pike and approached the bound Mika to kill him, but Jan insisted on delivering the final blow. Delvaren warned him that Streev was a highly trained warrior, but the warning was ignored. As Jan struck with the energy pike, Streev rolled out of the way and kicked Jan's injured leg, shattering his knee. Streev used the energy pike to cut his bindings and threw a stiletto into the other stormtrooper's throat, quickly finishing off the injured Jan. Streev and Delvaren faced off, but after witnessing Streev's quick dispatch of two of the Imperial elite troopers and having already been defeated by Streev previously, Delvaren chose to flee for his life instead.

Streev paused to rest and consider his options. Having just killed two Imperial troopers, he would be considered a criminal and traitor to the Empire, likely leading to imprisonment and death. Furthermore, if the Imperials killed Sh'shak, the S'krrr would declare war, unaware that the Imperials were not aligned with the Rabaanites. Ultimately, he decided to thwart the Imperials by saving and aligning with the S'krrr to prevent war.

Meeting Sh'shak

Sh'shak found him first and attacked with an energy pike. Streev was taken by surprise, and despite dodging the initial attacks, he was quickly injured and incapacitated. As Sh'shak moved in for the kill, Streev pleaded with the S'krrr warrior to wait. Sh'shak paused long enough for Streev to explain that the Empire intended to murder him to instigate a war. Sh'shak was initially hesitant to believe Streev, as he had seen Delvaren, a Rabaanite, working with the stormtroopers. However, Streev proved his sincerity by offering his piece of a commnet uplink. In the traditional combat, the Rabaanite and S'krrr would each possess half of a comlink-like device, and the winner would take the other half from the loser to signal his people of his victory. By surrendering his half of the device, Streev was effectively forfeiting the Combat to avoid conflict. However, as Sh'shak reached for the device, Modigal Glave shot him through the upper thorax. Streev dove for cover as Glave moved in and fired another blaster shot into the wounded S'krrr. Streev returned fire with his hold-out blaster pistol and helped Sh'shak to his feet. For the S'krrr, a chest wound, while painful, was not fatal, and the two fled for cover.

Rebel Aid

Despite the two warriors' cooperation, the Imperial stormtroopers quickly surrounded them, placing them in a precarious situation. Kyss, who had remained behind to assist at a secret Rebel base on the Combat Moon, emerged from a nearby cave to aid the duo. Streev and Kyss held off the Imperials long enough for Sh'shak to complete the assembly of the uplink device to send a signal to S'krrr, but the signal was jammed by the Imperials.

The signal did alert the Rebels, and an X-wing was launched to shoot down the pocket cruisers used by the stormtroopers. Meanwhile, other Rebel agents, two Bothans and Sanna, charged the Imperials surrounding the three warriors. Glave aimed a shot at Sh'shak, but Kyss dove in front of it, saving the S'krrr's life at the cost of her own. Streev was devastated and mourned her loss as the Rebels finished the rest of the battle. The Rebels were unable to prevent the Imperials from escaping and alerting the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Coercion in the system, so the Rebels collected Sh'shak and Streev and abandoned their hidden base.

Streev took one final act of revenge by hiding the uplink device in the Rebel base. When the mastermind of the Imperial operation, Governor Klime, arrived, he inadvertently revealed his plot to both Rabaan and S'krrr due to the device transmitting his conversation with Glave. Meanwhile, back on a Rebel freighter, Streev pledged himself to the Rebel Alliance after dealing with the traitor Delvaren and Glave.

Personality and traits

Streev was a Human male with dark hair and a very athletic physique. He was considered quite handsome, which only enhanced his celebrity status. Streev was intensely focused on his pursuit of martial perfection and initially had little interest in politics or the wider galaxy. He concentrated on his strengths, combat, and reveled in the glory and celebrity status it brought him on Rabaan. He even delayed his trip to the Combat Moon to appease his fans at the landing platform, much to the annoyance of his pilot and friend, Kyss. He enjoyed her company and planned to propose to her after his victory against Sh'shak, but his blissful ignorance created a rift in their relationship. Kyss's death shook him deeply, and he realized that even if he ignored the universe, the universe would still impact him and his people. He was deeply committed to both justice and revenge, and when Delvaren's betrayal and Glave's direct actions led to Kyss's death, he vowed to avenge her against both of them.

Skills and abilities

Streev was an incredibly fast and strong combatant. He trained to become the ultimate warrior on a planet dedicated to combat, and his abilities reflected this. He was only moderately skilled with his fists, specializing instead in blasters and melee combat. His knowledge of combat was comprehensive, and he possessed familiarity and talent with archaic weapons, thrown weapons, and modern slugthrowers. Despite his lack of interest in the wider galaxy, he had training in piloting starfighters and space transports.

Equipment

When Streev entered the ritual combat on the Combat Moon, he equipped himself with a stiletto, a tiny hold-out blaster, and his Ibarsi knife.
