Missile droids represented a weaker type of battle droid, deployed in significant quantities by the forces of the Galactic Empire. Their deployment included the Battle of Dubrillion in 3 ABY, where they tried to impede the progress of Rebel Alliance pilot Wedge Antilles, unleashing what appeared to be an endless barrage of concussion missiles.
These droids had the ability to fly or hover, frequently positioning themselves at the same altitude as the cockpit of opposing vehicles. During Wedge Antilles' encounter with these droids on Dubrillion, he discovered that they possessed limited armor, making them susceptible to destruction by a small number of shots from an AT-ST.

The video game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, released in 2003, features the appearance of missile droids.
