Mission to Gap Nine

This endeavor unfolded during the time of the Galactic Civil War, when a team of Rebellious agents were deployed to Gap Nine with the objective to disrupt an Ore processing center.

Context

The Galactic Empire operated an ore refining operation on Gap Nine, overseen by Commander Icus Traft. Traft also pillaged temples on Gap Nine for precious artifacts, rightfully belonging to the locals. Traft then sold the stolen artifacts to art collectors, keeping the money for himself.

The Operation

A team of Rebel soldiers was sent to Gap Nine to disrupt the ore refining operation by planting bombs within a shipment of replacement components. Although it wasn't initially part of the plan, the Rebels also found themselves involved in the conflict between Traft and the indigenous people of Gap Nine.

Setback

The initial attempt to sabotage the ore facility was unsuccessful due to Traft's unexpectedly strict security protocols. The Rebels were attacked by six Imperial Army soldiers wielding blaster sidearms and hand grenades. Trapped and unable to win the gunfight, the Rebels were forced to commandeer a robot-operated hovercraft. Protected from the troopers' blaster fire by the skimmer's cabin, the Rebels were able to drive the skimmer out of the facility, crashing through the perimeter fence.

The Rebels fled into the marsh, but were pursued by four recon troopers. To escape the motorcycle-riding troopers, the Rebels abandoned the skimmer and continued into the marsh on foot.

The Marsh Oracle

Having gone deeper into the marsh, the Rebels discovered the remains of an ancient shrine. While investigating the shrine, they encountered a native known as the Oracle of the Shrine, also known as The Marsh Oracle, who initially thought they were Imperials. The Rebels convinced him that they were not Imperials, and he told them about Traft's plundering of Gap Nine's ancient shrines. The Rebels also found out about the Battle for Gap Nine and a civilization that lived on the planet long ago.

The group heard the sound of motorcycles and hid in the shrine. Two recon troopers emerged from the marsh and examined the area. Unable to locate the Rebels, they decided to inform Traft that they had discovered another shrine to plunder. The Rebels and the Oracle overheard this and knew that it was only a matter of time before a raiding party would arrive.

Defending the shrine and fulfilling the sabotage operation

As expected, a raiding party consisting of six Imperial Army Troopers and four recon troopers arrived. Traft himself led the raiding party from an armored ground vehicle equipped with a heavy energy weapon.

The Rebels successfully defended the shrine from the Imperial raiders and returned to the ore facility. Discovering that the Imperials had not yet found the explosives in the shipment of replacement components, the Rebels detonated the charges, finally completing their objective.

Production Notes

This article assumes the successful completion of the scenario in which the operation is featured is canon. The scenario presents the player characters with the choice of either defending the shrine (which would mean the original operation fails) or refusing to defend the shrine to continue their operation (which would mean the shrine is raided). Alternatively, the article suggests that the players can divide their forces and simultaneously defend the shrine and continue their original operation.
