The Geonosis Mission was proposed by Rahm Kota with the goal of extracting a squad of rebel soldiers.
Following the destruction of the Galactic Empire's manufacturing complex located on Desolation Station, Kota informed X2 about a Rebel Alliance squad that had been captured on Geonosis. Kota instructed X2 to rendezvous with him on the planet, where they would launch a precise operation to rescue the imprisoned Rebels.
Upon arriving at the planet after Master Kota, X2 encountered Boba Fett's vessel, Slave I, amidst the Geonosis asteroid field. Initially, Fett mistook X2 for Kota, whom he was hunting due to an Imperial bounty. However, the bounty hunter decided to capitalize on the situation by capturing the clone to use as bait for the Jedi. Fett underestimated X2's piloting abilities, and was quickly forced to retreat by his opponent.
On the planet's surface, X2 commandeered a speeder bike from the Imperials and sped towards Kota's location within the Imperial facility. After meeting up with his new master in the building's entrance chamber, the two advanced into the depths of the facility, where they were forced to repel sporadic attacks from stormtroopers as they navigated the building's hazardous walkways. Despite the resistance, the pair successfully freed numerous captured soldiers, who were hesitant to withdraw from the building and instead wanted to join the fight. Once all the Rebels were freed, Kota and X2 joined them outside the facility, where their escape route was blocked by a heavily defended Imperial position. Following Master Kota's advice, X2 used heavy weapons to destroy the Imperials' shield generators, enabling the group to safely reach their escape vehicle and leave the planet.
After the mission's completion, the rescued Rebels pledged their allegiance to X2, who reluctantly accepted leadership of this new squadron. At Kota's suggestion, X2 named the new unit after his genetic progenitor, Falon Grey.
