Mission to Nar Kreeta

The operation to Nar Kreeta was undertaken in 14 ABY by Kyle Katarn and Jaden Korr on behalf of the New Jedi Order.

Context

Back in 14 ABY, a group of elders from the Mining Guild's Nar Kreetan division journeyed to the palace of a local Hutt crimelord for negotiations. They vanished without a trace. Despite the Hutt's denial of their arrival, Luke Skywalker opted to send Jaden Korr, a student at the Jedi Academy, to investigate. Simultaneously, Kyle Katarn was probing the disappearance of another Jedi student, Rosh Penin, near Nar Kreeta. Katarn offered assistance to Korr, providing transport via the Raven's Claw for initial deployment and subsequent extraction.

Operation Details

Bar owned by a local Hutt crimelord

Korr infiltrated the Hutt's palace discreetly, using the ventilation system. Overhearing the Hutt's guards, he discovered the Hutt was organizing bets on brutal bloodsports, pitting prisoners against a rancor. During his investigation of the palace, Korr faced numerous attacks from the guards. Eventually, Korr found several control rooms linked to small cantinas throughout the palace. Each control room held a lever that, when activated, unlocked a cell door where the Mining Guild elders were imprisoned.

Challenges

When Korr moved to rescue the elders, he uncovered the truth about the Hutt's gambling scheme and the true purpose of the facility. The prison area and the surrounding bars were actually a gambling arena where the rancor would hunt unarmed prisoners, ultimately devouring them. The Hutt arranged for his guests and guards to wager on prisoners escaping the rancor. Bets were placed on who would be the last prisoner consumed. No one had successfully escaped the rancor before. Korr located the elders and instructed them to head to the rendezvous point where Katarn awaited in the Raven's Claw, while Korr stayed behind to divert the rancor.

The plan worked, though it remains uncertain if Korr managed to save all sixteen prisoners. The surviving elders escaped through the ventilation system and were retrieved by Katarn in the Raven's Claw.

Production Notes

In the game Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, it is possible to defeat the rancor by inflicting sufficient damage; however, a new one will then appear.

Completing the level does not require all sixteen prisoners to survive. The rancor, and even Jaden, can kill some elders without causing mission failure. After the elders are successfully rescued, mercenaries can be seen firing at the rancor.
