In the year 10 ABY, the New Republic dispatched the Jedi Mara Jade on a quest: to obtain crucial provisions. Her target was Ka'Pa, a Hutt crime lord. A New Republic commander led the operation, while Mon Mothma, the Republic's leader, personally chose Jade for this assignment. Jade managed to get a meeting with Ka'Pa, but he demanded a favor in return for the supplies. Acting for the Hutt, Jade journeyed to the planet Katraasii with the goal of capturing Abron Mar, a subordinate of the crime boss Takara. Jade's intention was to extract details about a Global Communications Transponder pilfered from Ka'Pa. However, Mar overpowered her and imprisoned her in Takara's stronghold. She broke free, recovered the transponder, gave it back to Ka'Pa, and successfully acquired the supplies for the New Republic.
