Takara, a criminal overlord and competitor to Ka'Pa the Hutt, operated in the underworld. In the year 10 ABY, Takara pilfered a Global Communications Transponder from Ka'Pa, giving him the ability to eavesdrop on the Hutt's conversations. Mara Jade, while negotiating an agreement for the New Republic, consented to try and retrieve the transponder for Ka'Pa in return for provisions for the New Republic's military forces. Jade tried to locate Takara's Lieutenant, Abron Mar, by searching through the avenues of a spaceport located on the planet Katraasii, but she was captured and taken to Takara's stronghold situated on another planet. Using her Jedi abilities, Mara broke free, battled her way past Takara's security personnel and his rancor, seized the GCT, and gave it back to Ka'Pa.
The 1997 video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith included the initial reference to Takara. Takara is never shown visually, and is only referenced by other characters and during a level's loading screen. Apart from Takara's underlings, secret base, and sex, very little information about Takara is provided.
