In the year 382 BBY, a quest was launched by individuals belonging to the Path of the Open Hand cult, led by Radicaz Dobbs, a hyperspace prospector, to the enigmatic Planet X. Their objective was to acquire the eggs of the Nameless species. Their journey was undertaken aboard three starships; however, one met its end due to the planet's Veil, while another suffered a crash landing. Calar, a Force-sensitive member whose abilities unsettled Marda Ro, a devout believer in the Path, was also a target for elimination by Radicaz Dobbs during their passage through the Veil. Calar had a premonition that their actions would unleash dire consequences upon the galaxy and the Force itself, leading him to attempt sacrificing his ship to safeguard all other life, but Dobbs fatally shot him before he could reach the controls.
Bokana Koss, a member of the group, experienced a Force vision mirroring Calar's after the retrieval of numerous eggs. He asserted that colossal entities known as the Under-Dwellers desired the Path's departure from Planet X to initiate a blight across the galaxy. Subsequently, an Under-Dweller emerged from the planet's caves and attacked the group, causing Koss to lose consciousness and exit the vision. The protector, another massive creature, subdued the Under-Dweller. Nevertheless, the protector then turned its aggression towards the Path members, who were attempting to flee the world aboard the Silverstreak, a previously crashed ship that they had repaired. Koss gave his life to defeat the protector, enabling the ship's escape. After successfully jumping to hyperspace away from the planet, the Silverstreak's crew discovered that the Bonecrusher and its crew had disappeared.
