Calar was a Setaran tracker, attuned to the Force, and a former member of the Sacred Circle. He later defected to the Path of the Open Hand cult in 382 BBY. In that year, he was selected to accompany Radicaz Dobbs, a prospector, and other Path adherents on an expedition to the legendary Planet X. Their objective was to acquire eggs from the Nameless species and transport them to the Path compound located on the planet Dalna, with the intention of using them as weapons against the Jedi. The Mother, the Path's leader, and Dobbs believed Calar could leverage the Force to pinpoint additional eggs on the planet, utilizing a fragment from an egg previously hatched by the Leveler, a Nameless creature under the Path's control. Marda Ro, a devout follower of the Path's doctrine of "liberating" the Force from exploitation, felt unease regarding the inclusion of a Force-sensitive individual on the mission.
As Calar and his fellow Path members journeyed through The Veil surrounding Planet X aboard Dobbs's starship, the Scupper, Calar employed his telepathic abilities to try and persuade the others to reverse course, insisting they had no right to be there. He prophesied their demise as viscous chunks of the Veil began to assault their vessel, further warning that the Force would be enslaved, consumed, and ultimately perish, resulting in universal annihilation. Calar then manipulated the Force to attract the globules, hoping to sacrifice himself and his companions to safeguard the galaxy. Experiencing a vision, Calar cautioned that the Shrii Ka Rai, which he also referred to as the 'Nameless Horror', would pursue them all and that the storm would rise and stars would fall because they had trespassed into the Veil, forewarning them that their actions would lead to the Force's demise. Dobbs commanded Calar to cease his actions as the Veil encroached, but when Calar refused, Dobbs fatally shot him. With his last breath, Calar chanted 'The Force will be chained'.
