Sometime prior to the Battle of Geonosis which took place in 22 BBY, specifically a few months earlier, Jedi Knight and his Padawan Anakin Skywalker embarked on a mission to Taris. On their way to Taris, Skywalker busied himself by modifying a model comlink that they would utilize for the assignment. Soon after the commencement of the Clone Wars, Kenobi remembered the mission when Skywalker presented his old Master with a comlink from the Taris assignment, intending for it to be a secure means of communication during Kenobi's forthcoming mission to Cato Neimoidia.
