Mkbuto Islands

Mkbuto Islands, alternatively referred to as the Mkbuto Seatree Preserve, the Mkubto region, or the Mkubto island chain, represented a specific area located on the planet of Dac. Its environment was home to creatures such as needlefish and tumblebaskers, all living amongst the seatree fronds. A seaquake that took place several centuries prior to the downfall of the Galactic Republic caused this region to sink below the ocean's surface.

Despite being a region of Dac, the indigenous Mon Calamari people never had any desire to construct any floating city there, which is quite unusual. As a matter of fact, numerous inhabitants of Dac regarded it as sacred land. The Mon Calamari held the conviction that their species originated on this chain, with the majority of the islands having been submerged beneath the waves centuries ago as a result of a seaquake. The reason why the Quarren, the other intelligent species native to Dac, also considered Mkbuto to be sacred remains a mystery. Furthermore, the precise implications of this sacred status were not well-defined.

Due to its potential to offer crucial insights into the prehistory of Dac, Mkbuto was subjected to years of analysis by archaeologists, who were in search of artifacts or the foundations of structures.

At one point, archaeologists unearthed a planetary repulsor chamber, similar to those found in the Corellian system, buried beneath the sand of the largest island in the Mkbuto chain. This discovery, which would later be exposed as a fabricated one, started to garner media attention, including that of Haum Do, a reporter from Kamino. It quickly became clear that heightened security measures were necessary, and Colonel Guarran was selected to safeguard the excavation site. It is believed that Bringe, a Mon Calamari bounty hunter, was an assassin who was targeting Guarran.

Some time after the Battle of Calamari, Admiral Ackbar conducted research into the tectonic plate activity occurring on Mkbuto from a floating habitat. Later on, while composing his memoirs, Ackbar chose this location as his residence.
