ML-08, alternatively known as Mel, functioned as a maintenance droid on the starship Rabbit's Foot, a WUD-500 star yacht owned by the smuggler Jaxxon T. Tumperakki. Jaxxon viewed Mel as "the worst maintenance droid" he had ever encountered.
The design of ML-08 bears a strong resemblance to the T3-series utility droid featured in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a Legends video game. His name is a tribute to Mel Blanc, the voice actor of the cartoon character Bugs Bunny, as Jaxxon himself was conceived as an homage to Bugs Bunny.
