Morvogodine

Morvogodine, a life-filled world, existed within the Calaron sector situated in the Outer Rim Territories, according to Legends. During the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire held control over Morvogodine, establishing a particularly brutal stormtrooper training facility there. Not long before the Battle of Yavin, the Empire apprehended the celebrated musician Maxa Jandovar on Morvogodine, aiming to silence her politically charged artistic expressions.

Description

Located in the Slice area of the Outer Rim Territories, the planet Morvogodine was part of the Morvogodine system found within the Calaron sector. Abundant with life, Morvogodine’s diverse environments and ample sunlight fostered a wide array of plant and animal species. Its terrain was marked by both landmasses and extensive ocean regions.

History

Stormtrooper trainees on Morvogodine

The Galactic Empire occupied Morvogodine during the Galactic Civil War. Subsequent to the Battle of Yavin, the world hosted a notably harsh stormtrooper training facility overseen by Commander Kayn Somos. Somos would dispatch trainees on "peacekeeping" missions as their final trial.

Before 0 BBY, Maxa Jandovar, the renowned vandfillist artist, included Morvogodine in her ongoing informal musical tour across several years. Jandovar, a vocal political critic of the Empire, was compelled to maintain a secretive tour schedule to prevent Imperial forces from anticipating her performances and capturing her. Despite these precautions, the Empire apprehended Jandovar on Morvogodine, and she subsequently died while in custody. The Devaronian Kardue'sai'Malloc, who followed Jandovar throughout the galaxy hoping to attend one of her shows, was arranging transport from Tatooine to Morvogodine when he learned of her capture.

Behind the scenes

The short story "Empire Blues: The Devaronian's Tale," penned by Daniel Keys Moran and featured in the 1995 anthology Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, first mentioned Morvogodine as the location where the Empire arrested Maxa Jandovar. Later, Morvogodine was among the 200 playable planets in the 1998 PC game Star Wars: Rebellion, offering the planet's initial visual representation, which was also employed to depict eleven other planets with similar characteristics in the game.

Star Wars: Rebellion cartography

Star Wars: Rebellion provides hyperspace travel times between planets. However, some of these times are significantly longer than those found in other Star Wars Legends materials, suggesting that Star Wars: Rebellion's hyperspace times function more as game mechanics than accurate representations. The following chart shows Morvogodine's intra-sector hyperspace times and distance from Coruscant according to Star Wars: Rebellion using the game's fastest capital ship hyperdrive. The chart includes only planets canonically situated in the Calaron sector within the Legends continuity, with the exception of Coruscant.
