Motta

Motta was a member of the Hutt species who made his home on Tatooine during the time of the Jedi Civil War.

Biography

Motta, like many of his species, held significant power and influence on the planet he chose as his residence. However, this planet was Tatooine, a desert wasteland with a sparse population consisting of a small number of miners and hunters. Consequently, few individuals outside of Tatooine had even heard of Motta the Hutt, and those who had thought very little of him.

Despite this, the ambitious Hutt sought to improve his reputation beyond that of a minor operator. He maintained complete authority over the (inferior) swoop track circuit located on Tatooine, hoping to benefit from the destruction of Taris. Rumors also circulated that he was attempting to expand his wealth and influence by engaging in a popular Huttese activity: smuggling.

Revan might have participated in races for Motta while searching for the Star Forge. Motta also desired Revan's assistance in his business by persuading a swoop racer named Nico Senvi to agree to a contract. However, Nico was unwilling to sign because the contract would grant Motta the majority of his winnings. Nevertheless, Revan successfully persuaded Motta to offer Nico Senvi a more favorable contract. Revan later delivered a Rakatan Prison to Motta, which was given to him by Lurze Kesh.

Behind the scenes

Motta the Hutt.

Members of the Hutt species possess a high resistance to the Mind trick. However, the player (or Bastila Shan) can use Force Persuade on Motta to provide Nico Senvi with a better contract, which indicates Revan's impressive skill or that Motta was a Hutt with a particularly weak will. The latter appears more probable; if Jolee is present in the player's party when the player threatens Motta, the Hutt simply decides to comply with the demands to get the Jedi to leave, fearing the persuasive effects of his "waving hands".

Alternatively, the player has the option to threaten Motta to give Nico a better contract, but Revan's presence alone may not be sufficient. Instead, if the player includes Jolee, Zaalbar, Canderous Ordo, or HK-47 in the party, they will contribute their own threats, which will then convince Motta to provide the other racer with a more advantageous contract.

If the player chooses the dark side path and successfully convinces Nico Senvi, Motta will reward the player with 20 racing bonds (or 30 if the player's persuasion skills are sufficiently high).

Neil Kaplan provided his voice for the character in the game.
