Multi-Altitude Assault Transport

The Multi-Altitude Assault Transport (MAAT) represented an airborne vehicle utilized by the Galactic Empire.

Attributes

A MAAT deployed from its mothership.

This Multi Altitude Assault Transport was developed from the Galactic Republic's Low Altitude Assault Transport repulsorlift gunship, and served as a resilient repulsorcraft employed by the Empire for deploying its stormtroopers across diverse environments and situations. Its design mirrored the LAAT, but it featured two additional wings positioned above the primary wings, which resembled an ARC-170, along with reinforced armor on the bubble-cockpits.

Similar to its forerunner, the MAAT was equipped with a range of armaments, including missile launchers and laser cannons. However, in contrast to the LAAT's primary function of landing troops on planetary surfaces, the MAAT possessed the capability to transport stormtroopers to significantly higher altitudes, such as upper atmosphere installations and starships situated in low orbit around a planet.

A specialized MAAT variant could even traverse short distances in space to reach capital ships.

Background

A gunship of this type was present during the Battle of the TIE Fighter Construction Facility in 3 BBY. It attempted to deploy Rahm Kota's reinforcements against the facility's stormtrooper garrison. However, Galen Marek destroyed it before it could land.

The Rebellion forces would utilize these craft, along with the LAAT/is, for troop transport across battlefields in both space and planetary engagements throughout the Galactic Civil War.
