Plot summary

One evening, Obi-Wan Kenobi confesses to his mentor about his fear of disappointing him. Qui-Gon Jinn, his master, perceives this as an unhealthy attachment and recounts a myth about an ancient Jedi Master and his apprentices.

In the early days of the Jedi Order, the Knights sought out individuals strong in the Force to increase their numbers. A master by the name of Shang-Troy Thanabo journeyed to Boranall after sensing a strong presence in the Force. Upon landing, the Force led him to a pregnant woman carrying twins. He assisted in the delivery and took the twins as his apprentices, and together they embarked on missions throughout the galaxy.

Years later, the twins and their master encountered a woman. Both twins fell in love with her, but she only reciprocated the feelings of one, causing jealousy in the other. He eventually disguised himself as his brother and entered their home. However, the woman recognized the birthmark that distinguished them.

Her cries alerted the other brother, who was furious to find his brother with his wife. Their fight disturbed Thanabo, who rushed to intervene. Despite the efforts of Thanabo and the woman to pacify the brothers, they failed. Thanabo was caught in the crossfire and killed, further enraging the brothers. Their battle escalated until the entire planet was engulfed in a massive explosion of Force energy, transforming it into a star.

Qui-Gon explains that the star represents the unending conflict and chaos between the brothers, and to prevent such outcomes, the Jedi avoid attachment.
