Chris Eliopoulos, a comic book creator born on September 30, 1967, has both written and provided illustrations for various Star Wars narratives. These include "Problem Solvers" featured in Star Wars Tales by Dark Horse Comics, and more recently, SaBBotage (spotlighting BB-8), Droid Dilemma (spotlighting R2-D2), and Probe Droid Problem for Marvel' Star Wars series. These three Marvel stories are compiled in Star Wars: Droids Unplugged 1.
From 1985 to 1989, Eliopoulos was a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, located in New York City. He is well-regarded as a prolific letterer, notably for his hand-lettering work on the initial 100 editions of the ongoing Savage Dragon comic series. This continued even as the comic book industry increasingly adopted computer-generated fonts for dialogue. This decision was at the request of Erik Larsen, the creator of Savage Dragon, who favored the unique aesthetic of hand-lettered dialogue.
Eliopoulos was responsible for designing the fonts used by the in-house computer lettering department at Marvel Comics. Additionally, he contributed his lettering skills to Valiant Comics, DC Comics, among other publishing houses.
Eliopoulos is also recognized for his comic strip Desperate Times. This strip, which chronicles the misfortunes of Marty and Toad, two bachelor losers, initially appeared as a supplementary feature in Savage Dragon. Subsequently, Desperate Times comics were published by Image Comics, the publisher of Savage Dragon, and AAArgh! Comics, an imprint of After Hours Press.
Following the events of 9/11, Eliopoulos contributed a story to a benefit book by Marvel Comics. This story detailed how his family was impacted by the event, which coincided with his wedding anniversary.
He served as both the artist and co-writer for Marvel Comics' Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius, a former back-up feature and series of one-shot comics, collaborating with writer Marc Sumerak. The inaugural one-shot in the series received nominations for both an Eisner Award and a Harvey Award in 2005.
Furthermore, Eliopoulos has provided hundreds of cartoon strips for "The Complete Idiot's Guide..." book series, covering a vast array of subjects. He has also produced numerous custom cartoons for various clients, including Sports Illustrated.
On January 14, 2014, Dial Books released "I am Amelia Earhart" and "I am Abraham Lincoln," marking the debut of Brad Meltzer's children's book series, Ordinary People Change the World, with illustrations by Eliopoulos. Later installments in the series have explored the lives of other significant historical figures, including Martin Luther King, Jr., Albert Einstein, Rosa Parks, Helen Keller, Lucille Ball, and Jackie Robinson.
Eliopoulos promoted the series with an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, an NBC talk show, on October 7, 2016. The appearance featured a live drawing demonstration with Meyers participating.
