N4 was a droid belonging to the near-Human named Gern Zott as the Galactic Republic approached its end, during its final years. Zott tried to give it a menacing appearance by equipping a vacant military droid chassis with a compact power source and servomotors. Furthermore, he attached painted broom handles, colored black to resemble blaster rifles. Around 31 BBY, Krol-Pek, a Cerean, employed Zott to journey to the planet Genarius to retrieve the Sullustan Salld Nrump, a mission he undertook with N4 aboard his YT-1760 transport, known as Panada's Kiss.
