Nevan Khash

During the final years of the Galactic Republic era, a male being named Nevan Khash held the position of supervisor at the Verga Mer Mining Company. His area of responsibility was situated on the moon known as Tilnes. In the vicinity of 21 BBY, while actively performing his duties at a landing bay located on Tilnes, Khash made a concerning discovery. He detected the presence of a viral contaminant circulating within the bay's air circulation system. Simultaneously, he picked up a distress signal emanating from what was believed to be an abandoned facility situated on Tilnes' surface. Overwhelmed by the gravity of the situation, Khash initiated a quarantine protocol for the landing bay and enlisted the assistance of a group of freelance agents to delve into the origins of the distress signal and the source of the viral outbreak.

Biography

During the concluding years of the Galactic Republic, Nevan Khash, a male individual, was in the employ of the Verga Mer Mining Company enterprise. His workplace was situated on the moon of Tilnes, which resides within the Cularin system. Khash's role was that of a supervisor, overseeing a team of VMMC personnel responsible for operating a landing bay located within a spaceport on Tilnes.

Around 21 BBY, while Khash was on duty, an electromagnetic pulse originated from the core of Tilnes, causing a temporary disruption of all electrical systems at his landing bay. Initially, Khash was not overly concerned, as such occurrences were common on Tilnes. However, unbeknownst to him, the pulse triggered the release of an experimental virus from a base belonging to the Metatheran Cartel trade alliance, located beneath the moon's surface. The virus rapidly infiltrated the ventilation system of Khash's landing bay, and he soon noticed unusual sensor readings indicating its presence. Furthermore, he detected a distress signal originating from the Cartel's facility. Although the Cartel had publicly announced their withdrawal from Tilnes following public outcry in the Cularin system, Khash had heard rumors that they secretly remained, bribing VMMC officials to conceal their continued operations. He viewed the distress signal as definitive proof of these rumors.

Overcome with fear due to the spread of the unknown virus and its potential connection to the Metatheran Cartel, Khash instructed his crew to distribute respirators to everyone in the landing bay. He also imposed an unofficial quarantine, preventing anyone from leaving until the virus's nature and the distress signal's origin could be determined. However, his staff were reluctant to investigate the situation.

A group of freelance agents known as the heroes of Cularin, renowned throughout the Cularin system, were passing through Khash's landing bay and inquired about the lockdown. Initially, Khash dismissed their concerns and instructed them to return to their starship, assuring them that the situation was under control. However, recognizing their reputation, he soon realized who they were. Seizing the opportunity, Khash pleaded with them to investigate the viral contaminant and distress signal on his behalf. During their conversation, he carried a scrambler to prevent any recordings of his request.

The freelancers agreed to help, and Khash provided them with a datachip containing the coordinates of the distress signal. The agents located the signal's source and obtained a virus sample for analysis. Upon their return to the landing bay, Khash was nowhere to be found.

Personality and traits

Nevan Khash was physically characterized as small and slope-shouldered. Mentally, he was portrayed as a weak-willed, paranoid, and anxious individual who struggled to cope with stressful or high-pressure situations, often becoming evasive. His lack of skill in bluffing or concealing the truth made him easily persuaded to disclose his concerns.

Khash struggled to decide how to respond to the distress signal and the presence of the unidentified virus in the landing bay. He became distraught, fearing for his life. He was also concerned about potentially losing his job if he failed to resolve the situation or caused alarm by alerting travelers to his findings.

Behind the scenes

Nevan Khash appeared in Caaried Away, a roleplaying adventure by Morrie Mullins released in March 2003. It served as the first part of the Metatheran Caution trilogy within the Living Force campaign. The adventure does not specify Khash's species.

In Caaried Away, players assume the roles of the heroes of Cularin. If they initially fail to notice the unusual substance leaking into the landing bay, Khash can take a more active role in alerting them. Players can then choose to accept or reject Khash's request for help. If they initially decline, Khash reluctantly offers them 500 credits from his own funds to investigate. Players can also coerce Khash into revealing his suspicions about the Cartel's continued presence on Tilnes, in which case he begs them not to disclose that they learned this from him. After arriving at the Cartel base, players can contact Khash to communicate their findings.
