Nho'Apakk

A warrior of the Ewok species, Nho'Apakk resided in Bright Tree Village found on the Forest Moon of Endor. During the conflict known as the Battle of Endor, which occurred in 4 ABY, he played a role in helping the forces of the Rebel Alliance overcome the stormtroopers of the Galactic Empire. Nho'Apakk was distinguished by his off-white fur and a hood of greenish hue. His weapon of choice was a wooden staff featuring three prongs.

Biography

Living in Bright Tree Village on the Forest Moon of Endor, Nho'Apakk was a male Ewok who served as a warrior for his people. In 4 ABY, a small group of Rebel Alliance operatives landed on Endor. They managed to convince Nho'Apakk's village that the Galactic Empire, which had established a presence on the moon to facilitate the construction of a new Death Star battle station within the system, posed a threat that the Ewoks could assist in defeating. Consequently, Nho'Apakk joined his fellow Ewoks in the Battle of Endor, fighting alongside the Rebel forces and directly engaging stormtroopers dispatched by the Empire.

Personality and traits

Nho'Apakk's fur was cream-colored, and he had a brown nose, light-colored fingers and toes, and black eyes. He generally preferred to avoid conflict, but he was prepared to defend Bright Tree Village with great ferocity if necessary. He typically wore a hood of brown-green color. His weapon of choice was a wooden staff with three prongs at the end.

Behind the scenes

An unnamed Ewok, similar to Nho'Apakk with a spear similar to his action figure's

The Nho'Apakk action figure, a creation of Hasbro for their Star Wars: The Legacy Collection toy line, draws inspiration from an Ewok costume featured in the film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Leland Chee of Lucasfilm once speculated that an Ewok holding a film slate in a Return of the Jedi promotional image might be Nho'Apakk, but this Ewok is actually Stemzee. A StarWars.com article identified Nho'Apakk as a different, less noticeable Ewok in the film. A promotional photograph from the movie, which was reprinted in The Official Star Wars Fact File 109, showed an Ewok with a similar appearance to the one identified on StarWars.com, holding a three-pronged spear like the action figure's. However, no official source has confirmed that the photo is of Nho'Apakk.

Hasbro released the Ewok action figure in 2009 as part of a two-pack alongside fellow Ewok Paploo. The description of Nho'Apakk on the toy card does not specify the Ewok's gender, but Hasbro has stated that the character is male in official communications. The portrait illustration of the character on the figure card is a modified version of the one used for Graak on Hasbro's Romba and Graak two-pack, which was released in 2007. Therefore, the image on the card does not accurately represent the actual appearance of the Nho'Apakk action figure.

Nho'Apakk is named after a Star Wars fan named Noah. In the spring of 2008, Noah, who was seven years old at the time, was preparing for a major operation that would require several months of recovery. As Noah lived near Hasbro's headquarters, the toy company invited him for a tour and a discussion about their Star Wars toy line after learning about his upcoming surgery. During the visit, Noah mentioned his fondness for the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi. Coincidentally, Hasbro was in the early stages of designing a new pair of Ewok action figures. They showed Noah production shots of the various Ewoks from Return of the Jedi and asked him to pick the two that he found most interesting. Noah chose Paploo and a white-furred Ewok that was not well-known to Hasbro staff. Nevertheless, they respected Noah's preferences and decided to create new action figures based on his selections.

Production continued for several months, but the white-furred Ewok remained unidentified. Hasbro and Lucasfilm then realized that the character was one of several Ewoks who had not yet been officially named. Hasbro suggested naming the Ewok after Noah, and Lucasfilm agreed, providing the name "Nho'Apakk" to resemble an Ewokese version of the boy's first name and parts of his last name. Hasbro promised to give Noah the first Nho'Apakk figure produced, and the company reported that the experience had a significant impact on both Noah and his family. By May 2009, Noah had undergone his operation and was in the process of recovering.
