As the Battle of Endor unfolded, Oberk held the rank of corporal while serving as a scout trooper within the Imperial forces.
Oberk's origins trace back to the planet of Ukio. Sometime before 4 ABY, he enlisted in the Stormtrooper Corps of the Galactic Empire. By 4 ABY, having achieved the rank of Corporal, he found himself stationed on Endor. His duties there included safeguarding the shield generator bunker protecting the second Death Star and conducting patrols throughout the moon's wooded areas. While stationed on Endor, he sought to gain the favor of his biker scout unit's commanding officer.
During a patrol in Endor's forests alongside his partner, Oberk spotted Leia Organa, a Rebel operative. Wicket Wystri Warrick, her Ewok companion, sensed they were being observed but couldn't alert Organa quickly enough. Oberk's partner discharged a pair of blaster shots towards Organa, compelling her to seek cover and diverting her attention. This allowed Oberk to approach her undetected and command her to halt. As Oberk aimed his blaster at her, he instructed his colleague to prepare their speeder. However, Wicket, concealed beneath a log, launched an attack on Oberk with his spear. Momentarily distracted, Oberk was then struck by Organa with a branch, rendering him unconscious.
Oberk's character made his initial appearance as a scout trooper extra in the movie Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, which premiered in 1983. An actor, whose name was not credited, played him in the film. Prior to the film's release, the Return of the Jedi novel, which came out earlier that year, featured an unnamed scout trooper who played Oberk's role. In the novel, he captures Leia Organa alone, his dialogue differs, and Organa uses his own blaster to kill him after Wicket Warrick's assault. Oberk also appeared in the Return of the Jedi: The Storybook Based on the Movie in the same year as the film and the novel, although the text is similar to the novel in describing a single scout trooper attempting to capture Organa, and being killed by her with Warrick's assistance. The novel is not treated as a verified Oberk appearance in this article. The Return of the Jedi Storybook is only listed as an appearance because it includes a picture of the character.
In 1999, the Endor Limited edition of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game provided Oberk with a name and a concise background story.
