The Observation Ship, a sizable craft with an oval shape, was a mobile patrol unit. It was propelled by a repulsorlift system. This system was positioned on a column that descended from the center of the main body. A smaller observation gondola was suspended from this column, capable of detaching from the main ship. The main section of the ship featured a windowed bridge extending from the front. Furthermore, an observation deck encircled the craft with windows, enabling the personnel onboard to observe the cloning procedures taking place below.
Within the Tipoca City Military Complex, Kaminoan scientists utilized and staffed Observation Ships. These ships operated as mobile quality-control labs. The personnel onboard were quick to address issues and continuously sought to enhance their cloning and training methods. Alongside smaller KE-8 Enforcer Ships, Observation Ships also functioned as patrol vehicles, maintaining communication with them. Senior Kaminoan security personnel monitored both the communications and activities of these vessels from computer terminals and monitoring stations located outside the command bridge.
By 22 BBY, when Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi visited Tipoca City, Observation Ships were already in service. These vehicles performed quality-control inspections as Prime Minister Lama Su and his aide Taun We guided Kenobi on a tour of the Tipoca City Military Complex.
