OLR-4

OLR-4 was a command battle droid of the OOM series. This droid was assigned to the Trade Federation Lucrehulk-class freighter, known as the Revenue. In the year 32 BBY, while situated above the Outer Rim planet Dorvalla, his duty was to patrol the hangar of the freighter for any signs of potential threats. He came across a cargo pod that was emitting strange noises. After watching the pod for a short time, mercenaries from the Nebula Front criminal syndicate emerged. In the subsequent gunfight, OLR-4 was destroyed, along with other B1-series battle droids who were aiding him. Because their path was unobstructed, the mercenaries were successful in their attempt to capture the valuable aurodium ore that Revenue was transporting.

Biography

OLR-4, a commander droid variant of Baktoid's B1-series battle droid, the OOM command battle droid, was manufactured by Baktoid Combat Automata for the Trade Federation. He was stationed aboard the Lucrehulk-class cargo freighter Revenue in 32 BBY, where he performed security duties. During that year, the freighter was positioned in orbit around the Outer Rim planet Dorvalla, taking on lommite ore that was mined from the planet's surface. Once the ore was brought to Revenue, repulsorlift-powered cargo pods were used to load it into the ship's large hangars, before it was distributed among three zones in each of the two hangars. The central control computer of Revenue tasked OLR-4 with identifying any event that fell outside the parameters set by the control computer in the second of these zones in the starboard hangar.

OLR-4 was stationed on a Lucrehulk-class cargo freighter called the Revenue.

These parameters were activated when the sound of pressure relief valves was detected coming from a cargo pod that was gradually opening its oversized access hatch. After the central computer confirmed the anomaly using data from OLR-4's photoreceptors, more B1 security droids gathered around the pod and assumed combat positions. The forceful opening of the pod destroyed five droids, and blasterfire from inside the pod destroyed two more. The remaining droids, including OLR-4, returned fire on the intruders, who were mercenaries from the criminal organization Nebula Front seeking to steal the aurodium ore aboard Revenue.

As three more droids were defeated, OLR-4 repositioned himself around the pod to gain an advantage over the mercenaries, but he discovered that his blaster was overheating and nearing depletion. Despite this, the central computer continued to order OLR-4 to fire. OLR-4 attempted to run toward the cargo pod, but he was shot in both shoulders and fell to the ground. Believing that all of the droids were disabled, the intruders allowed OLR-4 to catch a glimpse of the bipedal humanoids who had boarded the freighter. He then tried to shoot one of the mercenaries, a Human, who was standing above him, but the overheated blaster failed, and OLR-4 inadvertently revealed his presence by exclaiming at the useless weapon. Alerted to his presence, the Human turned and shot the droid. As OLR-4's systems failed, he managed to send his final view to the central computer to alert the crew before finally shutting down. However, despite the central computer's alert, the crew of Revenue was unable to prevent the Nebula Front from seizing the valuable aurodium.

Characteristics

OLR-4 was a typical OOM-command battle droid, so he had a little more artificial intelligence than the standard B1-battle droid. Similarly, his chassis was painted with yellow markings to indicate his commander status. OLR-4 had to wait for Revenue's central computer to determine the nature of the anomaly before acting on the strange sounds coming from the Nebula Front's cargo pod. This proved to be a disadvantage for the droid when the mercenaries emerged from the pod before the computer could send an appropriate action to take. Even after being knocked down in the firefight, OLR-4 tried to attack the intruders with his depleted weapon manufactured by BlasTech, which led to his destruction.

Behind the scenes

OLR-4 made his first appearance in James Luceno's 2001 novel, Cloak of Deception.
