Onderon swoop racing. The Onderon swoop race track started out as an unofficial course for swoop racing, not sanctioned by the Onderon government. Legalization of the sport occurred only a short time before 3951 BBY. This track primarily went beneath and around the defense walls of Iziz, winding through caves and ancient ruins. A number of local swoop racers found it to be a difficult circuit, largely because it featured changes in elevation, a rarity since most swoop tracks across the galaxy were designed to be flat. Also, racers faced the danger of debris remaining from the track's historically competitive and perilous nature.
As with numerous other affairs, swoop racing on Onderon was intertwined with politics. On one side, there was the Onderonian government, led by Queen Talia, which strictly followed the galactic three-round racing system to demonstrate their support for the Republic. On the other side, champion swoop racer Jonra Far enthusiastically and openly supported General Vaklu's political opposition after each race. The importance placed on swoop racing was also demonstrated by the enforcement of proper behavior among racers, with those caught "misbehaving" potentially losing their right to race. Racers were expected to resolve issues on the track itself.
