The orga, a type of plant, thrived in the deepest regions of Kashyyyk, the Wookiee home planet. Possessing sharp vines, acid-filled pods, and powerful tentacles, they were capable of aggressive defense against anyone attempting to injure them. Conversely, when approached with reverence, they permitted the harvesting of their roots. In the days leading up to the Life Day festivities, Wookiee hunters renowned for their courage would embark on quests to locate orgas, considering them holy and incorporating them into their celebratory meals.
The initial canon reference to the orga plant appeared in Collapse of the Republic, a sourcebook covering an era for the Star Wars roleplaying game created by Fantasy Flight Games. Its genesis was in "The Kashyyyk Depths," a Legends comic strip for newspapers by Russ Manning, which debuted in 1979.
