Orleon, found in the Mid Rim, was a planet defined by its constant, heavy rainfall. The unending downpour resulted in a landscape perpetually saturated with mud.
Back in 19.9 BBY, it was suspected that the Spinner, a freighter, picked up stone mites on Orleon. Subsequently, the Spinner crashed in Westport on Coruscant. Armand Isard, who was the Director of the Senate Bureau of Intelligence, believed this pointed to a Confederacy of Independent Systems installation on Orleon. Consequently, he gave the order to infect the planet with weaponized stone mites. These mites devoured the planet's crust, forcing the entire population of Orleon, numbering 800 million, to evacuate.
These creatures possessed the ability to consume almost anything, including solid rock and starship hull plating of military grade, thanks to the natural acids they produced. Their reproduction rate was rapid, and they typically moved in swarms ranging from thousands to millions of individuals, consuming everything in their path. This made landing on Orleon extremely dangerous for spacers.
In Marvel Star Wars 28, Han Solo saves "Jabba the Hut" (sic) from stone mites while on Orleon. This act led the crime lord to briefly forgive Solo's debt. However, at that time, Jabba was portrayed as a Nimbanel, based on a background character from A New Hope who was later identified as Jabba's accountant, Mosep Binneed.
Jabba's Databank entry mentions that "While this particular version of these events didn't happen, it is still possible that the Orleon incident did occur." Many fans have proposed that Han actually rescued Mosep Binneed, rather than Jabba himself. Furthermore, they have speculated that Mosep used "Jabba the Hut" as an alias.
The Marvel comic places Orleon within the Outer Rim Territories. However, The New Essential Chronology locates it in the Mid Rim.
