Oroko

The Oroko, a transport vessel, functioned as a mobile headquarters for Valius Ying's piratical organization during the Mandalorian Wars. Operating from within the Outer Rim Territories, Ying and his ship, the Oroko, pursued the fugitive Jedi apprentice Zayne Carrick and his associate Marn Hierogryph in 3964 BBY. This chase occurred after Carrick was falsely accused of murder of his fellow students. The Oroko located their targets within the Taris asteroid belt and captured them aboard the scrap freighter known as the Last Resort using its tractor beam. After Hierogryph brokered an arrangement for his liberation, Ying piloted the Oroko to Taris, departing to deliver Carrick to the Jedi Order. Simultaneously, Hierogryph offered a bribe to the Oroko's second-in-command to release The Last Resort into planetary orbit, enabling Carrick's subsequent rescue.

Description

The Oroko, a substantial transportation ship, possessed ample space and facilities to serve as a mobile base for a sizable group. The Oroko featured three forward-projecting engines positioned ahead of a large, rounded primary structure and was outfitted with a tractor beam. The vessel incorporated a sizable storage bay capable of accommodating both a scrap hauler and a spacecraft concurrently. Predominantly a muddled brown hue, the Oroko displayed four upright orange bands situated above its trio of engines.

History

The Twi'lek pirate leader Valius Ying was the owner of the Oroko, utilizing it as a mobile command center for his Outer Rim criminal enterprise during the period of the Mandalorian Wars. Although not typically a headhunter, Ying, during 3964 BBY, joined in the pursuit of the runaway Jedi learner Zayne Carrick, who was accused of killing four of his fellow students on the world of Taris. He also sought an accomplice—Marn Hierogryph, a local Snivvian crook and an old associate of Ying's. While searching the Taris system aboard the Oroko, Ying discovered Carrick and Hierogryph aboard the junk hauler Last Resort, concealed within the Taris asteroid belt. The Oroko used its tractor beam to bring The Last Resort onboard. Within the ship's hangar, Hierogryph successfully negotiated an agreement for his freedom, along with that of Last Resort owners Jarael and Gorman "Camper" Vandrayk, in exchange for the access codes to the Snivvian's storage facilities on Taris. Meanwhile, Ying intended to transport Carrick alone in the Oroko's landing craft to the surface of Taris and hand him over to the authorities. Following this, the Oroko planned to release The Last Resort in a different star system.

Once the Oroko had reached Taris, Ying and Carrick disembarked in the shuttle. Upon landing amidst a large crowd of onlookers, Ying communicated with the Oroko to inform the crew that he had arrived safely and was proceeding to deliver Carrick to the five Jedi Masters residing in the Tarisian Jedi Tower. After discovering that the Jedi Masters had, in reality, ended the lives of the Padawans and falsely implicated Carrick, Ying attempted to leave the room quickly but was instead slain by Jedi Master Lucien Draay. Simultaneously, Hierogryph, concerned about the well-being of his friend Carrick, bribed the Oroko's second-in-command to release The Last Resort into planetary orbit, enabling Jarael to infiltrate the Tower and rescue Carrick.

Commanders and crew

Valius Ying was in command of the Oroko, which functioned as a mobile base for a number of criminals employed by the Twi'lek pirate. The Oroko also had a second-in-command, who assumed control of the ship during Ying's absence.
