P-RC3, also known as Persee, was a droid specializing in library duties. He was stationed within the library located on the initial Death Star.
Lord Alferon Choots Bemming, the proprietor of Bibliotron Systems situated on Coruscant, programmed Persee. Following his creation, Sector Admiral Poteet dispatched him to Death Star I. There, he became the property of the station's head Librarian, Atour Riten, who oversaw the Death Star Library.
Persee's role within the Death Star's library encompassed the resolution of intricate data retrieval challenges, a task he accomplished significantly faster than any Human. Furthermore, Persee served as an aide to Atour Riten, the chief librarian, and occasionally prepared tea for her.
Shortly after acquiring the droid, Atour altered its programming to deactivate its embedded spyware. This spyware would have compelled Persee to report any potentially illegal activity to Imperial authorities. She also modified its loyalty matrix to prioritize Atour's welfare over the Empire's interests. Moreover, any attempt by Imperial authorities to circumvent Atour's alterations would trigger a complete memory wipe of Persee, thereby eliminating any evidence the droid might possess regarding Atour's illicit actions.
During Princess Leia's rescue, Persee observed R2-D2's unusual utilization of the droid interface plug within a forward bay command office. Utilizing the room's security camera, Atour and Persee observed the discussion among Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, and Chewbacca concerning their strategy to escape the Death Star and save Princess Leia. However, due to the absence of an audio feed, Persee was compelled to rely on lip-reading to discern their conversation.
Following the destruction of Alderaan, a collective of individuals, including Atour, Memah Roothes, Rodo, Villian Dance, Teela Kaarz, Nova Stihl, Celot Ratua Dil, and Kornell Divini, resolved to abandon the station. Atour's strategy, which involved commandeering a E-2-T Medical Shuttle, necessitated the rerouting of Flight Control communications to facilitate a fabricated "verification" of orders authorizing the shuttle's departure. Atour initially intended for Persee to remain in the library to receive the call; however, Imperial security personnel detected Persee's unauthorized data access and apprehended him, compelling Atour to remain behind instead.
During the subsequent inquiry, the Imperial personnel scrutinizing Persee inadvertently activated the fail-safe mechanism that Atour had implemented, resulting in the complete erasure of Persee's memory, extending down to its fundamental nodes. Lieutenant Esture contacted the library to inquire with Riten about the droid; however, Riten successfully convinced him that he had mistakenly contacted the bay door control room. Before Esture could reestablish contact with Riten, a pilot piloting an X-wing managed to launch a proton torpedo into an exhaust port, triggering a reactor overload and subsequent explosion. Persee's physical form was obliterated shortly thereafter with the destruction of the Death Star during the Battle of Yavin.
P-RC3 largely resembled a standard bipedal protocol droid, albeit with a slightly enlarged head to accommodate a greater memory capacity. The droid exhibited a metallic blue coloration, complemented by blue photoreceptors. Reflecting its Coruscant origins, Persee possessed a High Coruscanti accent, conveying a refined sensibility exclusive to the upper strata of society.
