P8 Lamprey pistol
The P8 Lamprey represented a model of blaster pistol employed throughout the Galactic Civil War, specifically in the period following the Battle of Yavin. Its peculiar name stemmed from the menacing design of its barrel's tip, featuring a broad opening and elongated, stylized sights that bore a resemblance to fins. Upon striking their targets, the pistol's projectiles unleashed an acidic substance, posing a threat to both organic beings and machines. A band of spacers unearthed the weapon's blueprint during their mission to retake the renegade Imperial Star Destroyer called the Blackguard.
Behind the scenes
The P8 Lamprey pistol is featured within the 2003 MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies. Its inclusion in the game occurred on January 15, 2008, coinciding with the launch of the Chapter 8: The Nova Orion Crisis game update. Acquisition of the weapon involves looting its schematic from the remains of any "boss"-level adversaries encountered and defeated by players during the mission to reclaim the Star Destroyer Blackguard. Subsequently, players can present this schematic to another player specializing in the Munitions Trader profession, who can then manufacture the weapon on their behalf. Furthermore, the pistol is present as a "Weapon" card within the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game's Price of Victory expansion set. The release date for this expansion was December 14, 2010.
