PD-series protocol droid

The PD-series protocol droid, alternatively referenced as the PD Lurrian droid, represented a specialized protocol droid model. Cybot Galactica manufactured this droid specifically to serve the needs of the Lurrians residing on the planet of Lur.

Characteristics

PD-series schematics

The physical construction of the PD protocol droid mirrored the humanoid anatomy of the Lurrian people. Unlike the widely used 3PO-series protocol droid, the PD-series featured its internal torso wiring protected by plasteel armor plating, and all articulated joints were treated to be weather-resistant. The external shell was designed to be completely shock-proof. The head unit incorporated stylized features familiar to the Lurrians, including a prominent brow ridge designed to shield the droid's photoreceptors from falling snow. The PD-series operated using an AA-1 VerboBrain, which was programmed with extensive genetic and DNA information, replacing sixty percent of its standard language capabilities.

Given Lur's notorious reputation for powerful winds and rugged terrain, the PD droid's hands were replaced with robust servogrips. These grips could be launched from the wrists to secure purchase on various surfaces. A thin but incredibly strong cable was connected to the forearm, allowing the droid to effortlessly ascend steep cliffs.

History

The Lurrians expressed great satisfaction with the protocol droid, leading to the mass production of thousands of PD-series units. However, the entire production line faced an abrupt halt when the Galactic Empire imposed a quarantine on the Lurrian homeworld. This measure was enacted to maintain the genetic scientists of Lur under the watchful eye of Emperor Palpatine. Consequently, Cybot Galactica was compelled to liquidate its PD-series inventory to a major wholesale distributor, resulting in substantial financial setbacks for the company.
