Biography

Born in Santiago, Chile on April 2, 1975, Pedro Pascal was chosen by Jon Favreau, the executive producer of The Mandalorian, to embody Din Djarin, the Mandalorian character in the show. On December 12, 2018, StarWars.com made the announcement that Pascal would be playing the Mandalorian in the series. Pascal expressed surprise at how captivating Djarin could be despite the character's face being concealed. Djarin's strict Mandalorian code dictated that his helmet remain on in the presence of others, allowing Pascal to contribute as a voice actor while another individual donned the armor, thus freeing him for other projects. At the inception of The Mandalorian, Pascal was afforded the chance to define Djarin's physicality. He closely observed and adopted elements from the performances of Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder while they were wearing Djarin's armor. Pascal likened wearing the armor to "putting on a head-to-toe glove with weights on it." He commented that wearing the helmet felt like going blind due to his breath fogging the narrow slit and the absence of peripheral vision. Nevertheless, the armor instilled in Pascal a sense of power and protectiveness.
