Pesmenben IV, a planet of the Imperial variety, resided within the Teraab sector of the Mid Rim. This world was known for its [ore](/article/ore/legends] deposits, as well as its expansive dune landscapes. Lando Calrissian, a notable businessman, famously swindled the Imperial governor of this planet into a lease agreement via a lithium-related scheme, an event that occurred around 0 BBY.
This terrestrial planet, named Pesmenben IV, held the fourth orbital position within its Pesmenben system. Characterized by its dune-filled terrain, Pesmenben IV was situated in the Teraab sector, specifically within the Slice region of the Mid Rim. The [ore](/article/ore-legends] resources found here surpassed those of the neighboring planet Ruusan in quality.

The Human entrepreneur Lando Calrissian orchestrated a lithium swindle on Pesmenben IV sometime before 0 BBY. He, along with his accomplices, artificially enhanced the planet's dunes with lithium carbonate, a tactic mirroring a previous deception he experienced involving a berubian mine operation in the Borgo asteroid belt. This ruse was designed to trick the resident Imperial governor into granting a lease for the planet. Calrissian, disguised as a non-union guard at a mine, put the governor in a compromising position, forcing him to discard his bribe when Calrissian's associates, posing as "union officials," staged a raid. Calrissian and his team successfully executed the Pesmenben scheme. Later, while working undercover as a guard in Jabba's Palace on Tatooine, Calrissian recalled the Pesmenben job, hoping for similar success but anticipating the potential need to deal with opposing guards in a similar fashion.
The chronicle The Essential Chronology, a record of galactic history, mentioned Calrissian's con on Pesmenben IV in 25 ABY. This event was also included in its later update, The New Essential Chronology, in 36 ABY.
The first mention of Pesmenben IV appeared in James Kahn's novelization of the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. The novelization was released on May 12 of that same year.
A roleplaying game source article titled "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," featured in issue thirteen of the Voyages SF magazine (1990), placed the Pesmenben system, and consequently Pesmenben IV, within the Trebela sector. However, due to its release outside of the official Lucas Licensing channels, its canonicity within the Star Wars Legends storyline remained unconfirmed. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas later positioned the Pesmenben system in grid square Q-11. The StarWars.com Online Companion to the book superseded the Voyages SF placement, establishing the Pesmenben system's location within the Teraab sector.
