Piranha beetle

Beetles of the piranha variety were a type of beetle that originated on the moon named Yavin 4, and are classified as a species. These beetles were known for their harassment of runyips, while other species of beetles sought sustenance on the moon's forests floor.

Biological traits and physical appearance

Piranha beetles possessed a total of four wings, four black eyes, and four sensory facial appendages, which they utilized to sense airborne vibrations. Their diet consisted of minuscule mites that dwelled on the skin of runyips.

Development history

The initial appearance of piranha beetles occurred in Champions of the Force, a Star Wars Legends novel authored by Kevin J. Anderson, which saw release in 1994. The species' status as canon was subsequently affirmed through the reference publication Ultimate Star Wars, which was distributed in 2015.
