A Point-Defense Battery, alternatively referred to as a Point-defense laser cannon, represented a particular kind of starship laser cannon armament. Its primary function was to obliterate approaching projectiles, including missiles, torpedoes, smaller craft, and other potentially harmful objects. The Venator-class Star Destroyer was equipped with fifty-two of these defensive systems, while the Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought featured twenty-six cannons of this type. The MC85 Star Cruiser was outfitted with a complement of twelve point-defense emplacements.
