After the Battle of Yavin concluded, Prepredenko reached out to the Rebel Alliance, expressing his planet's desire for membership.
He had a meeting with Luke Skywalker, who consented to "rescue" his abducted daughter as a favor. However, Syayna was secretly engaging with Rebel operatives, as her father was, in truth, still aligned with the Galactic Empire. Prepredenko disrupted their objectives and utilized the cam droid 3DVO to incapacitate Skywalker with a tranquilizer dart, intending to hand him over to the Empire.
When Darth Vader arrived, 3DVO, consumed by remorse for betraying Skywalker, misled Prepredenko by falsely claiming that Vader desired the young Rebel's death prior to his arrival on the planet. Consequently, Syayna feigned killing Skywalker by shooting him with a stun bolt. Prepredenko notified Vader of Skywalker's "execution," leading to his immediate arrest and torture by Vader's stormtroopers. In his final moments, he conveyed his apologies to his daughter before his demise. His death, recorded unlawfully and broadcast in real-time by 3DVO, incited the Jazbinans to rebel against the Empire.
