Plot summary

Hart-and-Parn Gorra-Fiolla, more commonly called Fiolla, is on her way back from a task on Ulicia. Fiolla, an executive within the Corporate Sector Authority, receives an urgent priority X communication originating from the office of the Prex, Chils Meplin. She is instructed to locate and apprehend a group of rebels operating within the Abo Dreth system. En route to Abo Dreth, Fiolla's captive, Naven Crel, attempts to seize her blaster. However, Fiolla regains control of the situation and successfully subdues Crel once more.

Upon arriving at Abo Dreth, Fiolla and Crel find themselves in an ambush set by a woman who is revealed to be the Prex's aide, Akeeli Somerce. Somerce's objective is to eliminate both Crel and Fiolla to keep them quiet. Crel sacrifices himself to save Fiolla when Somerce opens fire, resulting in his death. Fiolla then learns that Crel had been working undercover to uncover a traitor within the CSA, and his investigation had pointed to the Prex. Fiolla pledges to put an end to the Prex's betrayal of the CSA by selling secrets to the Galactic Empire.
