Proximity mines were a specific kind of explosive device used by the Rebel Alliance. They strategically positioned these mines near Echo Base's Outpost Beta. Despite some of them exploding due to the presence of Imperial AT-ATs, the resulting damage was minimal.
Upon their explosion, proximity mines emitted flashes of blue light.
