Pyn'gani

The Pyn'gani originated from the Outer Rim planet of Polus, and were a sentient species considered Near-Human. To survive the extreme cold of their homeworld, they relied on heat generators to protect their cities. They significantly contributed to the development of the carbon-freezing technology, and the mining of carbonite was a primary economic activity on Polus. Notably, the reclusive Jedi Master Anno Wen-Chii, who lived circa 1000 BBY, was a member of this species.

Biology and appearance

Classified as a Near-Human sentient species, the Pyn'gani shared many similarities with Humans. This classification denotes species closely resembling Humans, yet possessing unique adaptations to their environment. Consequently, they were bipedal and human-like, exhibiting a distinctive brown skin tone. These features allowed them to withstand the intense cold conditions of their homeworld.

Society and culture

Pyn'gani structures on Polus

Residing in the Oricho sector of the Outer Rim, the Pyn'gani were an isolated society inhabiting the planet Polus. Characterized by its arctic environment, Polus was predominantly mountainous, featuring a vast frozen ocean. The average daytime temperature was a frigid fifty degrees below freezing, frequently experiencing blizzards and ice storms. To combat these conditions, the Pyn'gani constructed domed dwellings and employed a network of heat generators and shield generators to protect their cities and living spaces, showcasing their mastery of thermal dynamics. For defense, they utilized the carbonite gun, a blaster-type weapon capable of immobilizing both living and mechanical targets.

When venturing outdoors, Pyn'gani wore thick woolen coats, with sleeves tied up, and large hoods to shield themselves from the frigid temperatures.

History

Polus was the planet of origin for the Pyn'gani. During this time, Anno Wen-Chii, a Pyn'gani, held the esteemed rank of Jedi Master within the Jedi Order. The solitary Master returned to Polus with his Padawan, Nalia Adollu, that year, where they remained for a period, seeking to expand their knowledge of the evolution of life in the galaxy.

Polus was under the control of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, which was engaged at war with the ruling Galactic Empire. Later, the Zann Consortium, a criminal syndicate, raided Polus, enslaved the Pyn'gani, and forced them into their military forces.

By the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, the Pyn'gani had significantly advanced the carbonite freezing process, which was used to store goods for extended shipping durations. The mining of this valuable metal was a key economic activity for the species around the time of 0 BBY.

Behind the scenes

The Pyn'gani made their debut in the video game Star Wars: Empire at War in 2006, and subsequently appeared in its expansion, Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption.
