Quasar (Human)

Quasar, a male Human from the Legends continuity, functioned as the captain of a commercial pleasure cruiser. During the Galactic Republic era, his vessel provided transport for both prominent figures and less reputable individuals. Notably, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi once journeyed to Alderaan aboard Quasar's ship. During this particular trip, pirates operating within the Merson asteroid belt posed a threat to the ship. Consequently, Quasar relinquished control to Kenobi, who successfully repelled the attacking raiders.

Biography

In the age of the Galactic Republic, a male Human known as Quasar embarked on a career as the captain of a pleasure cruiser. Quasar's business thrived in a period when the hyperlanes were generally secure, and sizable pleasure cruisers routinely transported beings from all walks of life between various planets. Quasar's clientele included politicians, criminals, and on one occasion, the esteemed Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was traveling to Alderaan. On that memorable voyage, Quasar requested that Kenobi accompany a protocol droid named 68-RKO, who was being delivered to serve King Bail Organa. This request was intended as compensation for Kenobi's heavily discounted fare. Kenobi agreed, although the droid's presence sparked a conflict between the Jedi and a droid-hating fellow passenger, which culminated in Kenobi fatally striking the man with his lightsaber.

Shortly thereafter, Quasar personally sought Kenobi's assistance during a particularly treacherous segment of their journey. The route to Alderaan necessitated passage through the Merson asteroid belt, a region known to be infested with notorious pirates who preyed upon passing ships. Standard procedure for ships traversing the belt involved deactivating all non-essential systems and silently drifting amongst the asteroids to conceal their presence. However, on this occasion, Quasar observed a group of four pirate vessels seemingly shadowing them, a highly unusual circumstance. Uncertain of how to proceed, Quasar sought Kenobi's advice and ultimately ceded control of the bridge to the Jedi when the pirates initiated an attack. Quasar was astonished when Kenobi skillfully repelled the pirates using only a pair of energy cannons, before departing the bridge to investigate his suspicion that the bandits were tracking a signal originating from within Quasar's ship. Kenobi soon discovered the source: a microwave emitter emanating from a fermentation device located in the ship's bar.

Personality and traits

Despite his role as captain of his pleasure cruiser, Quasar readily sought guidance from others when confronted with unfamiliar situations, particularly valuing the counsel of the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi. Furthermore, when faced with the threat of violence, as occurred in the Merson asteroid belt, Quasar willingly relinquished command of his ship entirely, lacking any formal training or practical experience in matters of warfare.

Behind the scenes

Quasar's sole appearance within the Star Wars Legends continuity occurred in Star Wars (1977) 24, penned by Mary Jo Duffy and published in 1979. The character of Quasar was brought to life through the illustrations of Carmine Infantino.
